Originally from Los Angeles, Tené spent her early years as a gymnast. She studied ballet, jazz, and hip hop in high school and was introduced to West African dance while getting her BA at California State University, Long Beach. She has traveled all over West Africa and the Caribbean studying traditional dance and culture with some of the most renowned teachers, such as Mustapha Bangoura (Guinea) and Peniel Guerrier (Haiti). She has danced notable venues such as Alvin Ailey, Summerstage, Brooklyn Music School, and VH1. Most recently she was a guest performer for Ballet Bacoulou d’Haiti at Carifesta in Suriname.
